Fans
from all over the country travel to Union Park to watch the Spiders
play. The stadium is located in downtown Houston at Union Station, and
beautifully incorporates modern conveniences, yet
exudes a truly classic atmosphere. A
ceremony that is a unique tradition at Union Park is the throwing out
of the first ball on opening day by the Mayor of Houston. The Mayor is
given free box seats each season. The Mayoral Box is located next to
the first base dugout on the side of the dugout near home plate.
Day games start at 1pm. Night
games start at 7pm.
City notes...
Houston
(Market Size: Big) - Alive with energy and rich in diversity, Houston
is
a dynamic mix of imagination, talent and first-class attractions that
makes it a world-class city. Home to a vibrant economy, beautiful
surroundings and a population full of optimism and spirit, it's no
wonder that Houston is a popular international destination.
The city is primarily built on the energy industry and nearly everyone
owns a car and drives everywhere they go. However, the city is becoming
more dense and walkable, particularly in the Midtown/Montrose areas.
Houston, like many American cities, is diverse. As a large city,
Houston is home to more than 100 languages.
Spider
fans are rowdy. They have altercations in the stands. Most
come to the game dressed in all black along with various other creepy
spider costumes. This gives Spider games a distinct hostile
atmosphere. In fact, no fan would dare ware enemy colors at Union
Park. Those who do often leave the park with police protection.
But Spider fans adore their players, are fiercely loyal and like
to predict that their team will win the title every season. The Spider
oganization has developed a cult-like following of fans all across the
nation, thus their fans have adopted the term 'The Spider Republic' to
describe themselves.
