and inside runs that moved them into range. The drive stalled near the

Metropolis responded with its first explosive play of the game late in
the half. Al North (QB) connected with Timothy Norton (TE) on a 57-yard
touchdown pass, quickly flipping momentum and putting the Monarchs
ahead. Adalberto Vanmeter (K) added the extra point.

The Monarchs extended their lead with a controlled drive mixing short
passes and runs to sustain possession. The drive stalled just outside
the red zone, but Vanmeter (K) drilled a 49-yard field goal to stretch
the margin.

Oakdale chipped away with a long, methodical drive that leaned on both
the run game and underneath passing. The possession stalled inside the
30, but Hass (K) converted a 44-yard field goal to cut into the deficit.

Oakdale quickly mounted a late push after moving the ball efficiently
through the air. John St. John (QB) led the drive before Michael

Metropolis answered immediately in dramatic fashion after a deep
completion put them in scoring range. Al North (QB) delivered again,
finding Patrick MacNamara (WR) for a 27-yard touchdown pass to reclaim
the lead in the final seconds. Vanmeter (K) converted the PAT.

QUICK GAME RECAP ...
In a tightly contested playoff matchup, the Metropolis Monarchs edged
the Oakdale Nightbirds 17–13 behind timely big plays and late-game
execution. Oakdale controlled much of the flow offensively, outgaining
Metropolis and sustaining longer drives, but struggled to consistently
finish possessions, settling for field goals early. Metropolis relied
on explosive passing plays, including a 57-yard touchdown before
halftime and a game-winning 27-yard strike in the final seconds, to
overcome limited sustained offense. Oakdale briefly took the lead late
in the fourth quarter on a short touchdown run, but could not hold off
the Monarchs’ final drive. MVP QB Al North (METROPOLIS) finished
11-of-23 for 199 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions,
providing the decisive plays while the Monarchs’ defense held firm in
key moments to secure the win. |
